A few decades ago, it seemed impossible that neural networks would now become great helpers not only to the designer but also to other different professions in making their work much more accessible, better, more efficient, and more convenient. Undoubtedly, in 2023, one of the leading trends in design, especially in the web and in graphic design, has become design using neural networks.
The idea of generative design is to quickly create many design variations based on a single concept. Parameters such as goals, constraints, and materials can be set to control the generation of all possible solutions through software testing and training at each iteration. The goal is to enhance human cognitive abilities to create things that would otherwise be unavailable.
Every year there is a growing number of amazing examples of generative design that are used in various contexts — from experimental to real. Although generative design is still in its infancy, we can already see impressive results from its application in industrial design and architecture. One such example is the Heydar Aliyev Center, created by renowned architect Zaha Hadid using modern neural network algorithms.
Today, modern generative design tools help not only create unique building shapes but also solve various problems in production activities, such as minimizing waste or optimizing production processes. Therefore, generative design remains one of the most interesting and promising areas of contemporary art and science, continuing to develop and surprise us with new ideas and solutions.
Today, there are a huge number of different services based on artificial intelligence. Different neural networks are used in different areas, but we will focus on generative neural networks, which are the most popular in the design industry. Generative neural networks create artificial images, texts, music, videos, etc. Therefore, when choosing a generative neural network for use, it is necessary to take into account many criteria, such as content quality, stability, generation speed, and much more.
Our agency was tasked with conducting its research, which consisted of studying the possibility of the mass generation of images using data from neural networks. However, more research is needed on how to effectively use neural networks in design to make it easier to work on graphic elements.
In addition, we also wanted to explore the possibility of mass-adding text to images using AI and understand how this process can be automated. To study this topic in more depth, we also considered issues related to the choice of optimal algorithms for generating images and optimizing the operation of neural networks in the design process.
In this article, we will consider the topic of generative neural networks and their potential. First, we describe the criteria by which the information was selected, then we will show how generative models were analyzed using a comparative approach. We will also tell you about our experience of communicating in communities dedicated to neural networks and communicating with specialists.
Next, I will describe the process of testing a generative model, automated processes, and their implementation using neural networks. We will also study the conditions for using generative services, show visual examples of the images obtained and come to a conclusion.
So please sit back and start diving with us into the world of generative design! We are waiting for a lot of interesting and new!
In today’s world, designers face a variety of tasks, from completing minimal tasks, such as editing their work, to more complex tasks, such as creating a complex concept for a brand. However, when performing repetitive and monotonous tasks, such as putting logos on product photos for an online store, designers can quickly burn out and lose efficiency in their work. In such cases, automation can be a real lifesaver.
Design automation is the process of performing design tasks automatically using tools or software. For example, some programs allow you to apply a logo on a massive number of photos in just a matter of minutes. This greatly increases the efficiency and productivity of the designer.
In addition, automation can also help designers improve their creativity and focus on more complex design challenges. Automating repetitive and boring tasks allows designers to free up time and energy for more important aspects of their work, such as generating new ideas and concepts, experimenting with new design techniques, and exploring new design trends. In this way, automation helps designers become more productive, efficient, and innovative, and create high-quality work.
Filtering out useful and junk information is an essential skill in our age of information glut. To classify information as useful or trash, it is necessary to use critical thinking and analysis. First, it was necessary to check the sources of information for reliability. For this, the information that we met — we tested it so that later we can demonstrate it here! To you personally!
Second, check what other sources confirm this information. If the information was published only on one site and is not available anywhere else, then you should treat it with caution. If the information is confirmed by several sources, then the likelihood that it is reliable is higher. Therefore, we often turned to either experts or the community of people who understand the automation of work in design and the use of neural networks, but we will talk about this later.
At the beginning of the search for information, it is very important to highlight all the useful things that will come in handy in further work, and what is not needed should be removed. Keywords help a lot with this. For example, in our case, the search constantly featured such expressions as:
“bulk generation”, “automation”, “mid journey // dalle-e // stable diffusion automation”, “generate images in bulk”
Always, at the beginning of any research, one should conduct a literature review and understand what work has already been done before moving on to the research focus and gaps that exist.
And only after reviewing the information that already exists and carefully filtering it, did we start looking for a gap, and, accordingly, a research question to be solved!
Dividing the information received into the categories described above, we realized that it helped us a lot to decide what kind of gap exists. There is little data on how to do automated work using neural networks, thereby speeding it up with the help of mass image generation. On the extensive surveys of the Internet, we presented ourselves with such a gap that we had to solve: How to find the very right tools that will help us solve exactly the problem that we have? many — but not all fit exactly the keywords that we described above. Therefore, we had to determine the criteria for exactly the product that ideally fits the requirements. We will talk about this later.
Now it became clearer why it was necessary to use the right tools to achieve the results of the study. But another question arises: What criteria are needed to understand which generative models are suitable for testing? We selected the following criteria for the study:
Let’s go in order. The first is a license. It is necessary to make sure that the resulting images as a result of generation can be used for commercial purposes. It is also necessary to check which license itself is because some licenses have to be paid for to use images for business. For example, Midjourney allows commercial use of images based on General Commercial Terms only after a subscription has been purchased.
The second is method or alternative. The method is considered here as a way that can help generate images in bulk, for example, install some specific extension or download a specific code or file, as in Stable Diffusion. The alternative is considered here as a specific service that can immediately generate mass images without any additional actions.
The third is Bulk Generation or Creates from 10 to 30 at once. Some services, due to their technical capabilities, can massively produce a lot of pictures (here we consider 100 pictures at a time or in one hour). At the same time, some options can produce from 10 to 30 pictures at a time or in one hour. They should also not be overlooked, since they can still produce a sufficient number of different images and simplify the work of the designer so that he does not enter the same or different prompts each time.
Fourth — Text to Image, Image to Text. Everything is pretty simple here. Sometimes we want to mass-generate not only the pictures we’ve given the model to create but also want to improve existing pictures by making them much better.
Fifth — Batch adding text, batch adding a logo. It is similar to the fourth point. It is quite convenient when the generative model can mass-generate pictures with added text and/or added logo, but this situation is not as simple as it seems. We’ll talk about this a little later.
Sixth — NFT Creator. This is rather a nice bonus, rather than the main criterion, where a generative model can immediately automatically create its NFTs.
And lastly, price. Also, not an unimportant factor, because you need to know how much a subscription will cost if you like some kind of generative model.
In general, we can say that about 22 different generative models were collected from the most famous Midjourney, Stable Diffusion to little-known codes on GitHub. I will describe the most interesting finds.
Night Cafe
NightCafe is a top-tier AI art generator with a multitude of impressive features. One such feature is its ability to handle bulk creations and downloads, making it an ideal tool for artists and designers who need to generate a high volume of artwork in a short amount of time. Additionally, all images created using NightCafe can be used for both commercial and non-commercial purposes, providing artists with unparalleled flexibility in how they choose to use their creations. However, it is important to note that while NightCafe grants users broad usage rights, it is always recommended to double-check the licensing agreements to ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
Neurogen.art
The creators of Neurogen.art claim that their neural network can generate about 1000 images per second. This is impressive and can be useful for those who work with a lot of images.
Also, it is worth noting that this neural network may be of interest to researchers in the field of artificial intelligence. It can help in the creation of new technologies and algorithms that will be used in future projects.
Although this feature of the Neurogen.art neural network is under development, its capabilities are already generating great interest. We look forward to its market launch and hope that it will become an essential tool for many professionals in various fields.
Runway
Runway can generate images using image-to-image technology, which allows you to create unique images based on existing ones. In addition, Runway allows you to generate images in large quantities thanks to the batch processing function, which allows you to process up to 100 images at the same time. This reduces the time spent on image processing and allows the user to increase their productivity.
Fotor
Fotor is a handy online image editing tool (not a neural network!) that allows you to bulk-add logos to pictures. But that’s not all, because there are many more features on the platform that allow you to process images and make them more attractive. For example, you can use Fotor to crop, resize, apply filters and effects, add text, and more. At the same time, you can work with both one and several images thanks to the batch-adding function. In addition, Fotor provides users with a user-friendly interface and a variety of tutorials to help them quickly get up to speed on the platform and start editing images like a pro.
Adobe Photoshop (!!!)
One of the great things about technology is that it always has unexpected uses! For example, everyone’s favorite Adobe Photoshop is not a neural network, but it is capable of interesting possibilities! For example, did you know that you can bulk-add a logo to the images you want? Adobe Photoshop makes this task easy and quick, without having to look for special programs!
And this is far from the only example. For many tasks, complex and expensive neural networks are not needed, which require specialized knowledge to use them. Instead, you can use simple and affordable tools, such as, for example, Windows. Yes, that’s right, even Windows can help you with many tasks, including adding a logo to an image.
But in the end, the choice was only Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and Dalle-2.
Midjourney
Midjourney is a generative neural network that allows you to create images and animations with high quality and resolution, making it a popular choice in the design industry. This neural network can be used to create photorealistic images of various objects and situations such as landscapes, people, animals, etc. Midjourney can also be used to create animations, making it a useful tool for creating commercials and game elements. One of the main advantages of Midjourney is its speed and relatively low error rate when generating images. In our humble opinion, this AI does the best job of understanding what is required of it when entering prompts.
The only thing we can note from the minuses is that Midjourney cannot yet generate pictures with certain text on them, the letters are bizarre. In addition, Midjourney has rather strict Terms of Service, which do not allow users, for example, to automate processes when using Midjourney. But we will return to this
picture example
Dalle-2
Dalle-2 is a powerful generative neural network capable of creating images based on text descriptions. It can generate images of various objects and situations, including abstract or fantasy ideas. Dalle-2 can also generate images with text on them, which is a significant improvement over Midjourney.
One of the main advantages of Dalle-2 is its flexibility and power in image generation. In addition, its use is much more simple and more convenient than that of Midjourney.
However, Dalle-2 can also be computationally and time intensive for image generation, especially for high-quality images. In addition, it has its limitations on what types of images it can generate, and, like Midjourney, there are certain conditions for its use.
picture example
Stable Diffusion
Stable Diffusion is a neural network used for image generation tasks. It is capable of generating images on various topics. One can create mass images, and we will also talk about this below.
However, Stable Diffusion may not be as fast as other neural networks and requires a lot of computing resources to run. In addition, it has its limitations on what images it can generate, for example, it seemed to us that this neural network understands less what we require from it than the same Midjourney. Even though this AI was not particularly suitable for our needs, Stable Diffusion remains one of the most popular neural networks for image generation tasks.
picture example
After reviewing the rest of the generative models and alternatives in our database, we realized that these three titans of the neural network graphics industry completely win on all counts. For example, the image quality of these titans is an order of magnitude higher than that of competitors. In addition, the use of these titans is very simple and intuitive, which can be attributed to their advantages. Finally, their licenses are transparent and user-friendly, which reduces risk and ensures security when using graphic design tools. In general, we can say that these AIs are leaders in the neural network graphics market and are worthy of attention for both professionals and novice users.
As someone who doesn’t have serious neural network skills, I felt the need to consult with experts who understand generative AI. We decided to go to Reddit (We DMed users who responded very actively to posts related to bulk generation), to get expert opinions on our chosen neural networks Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and Dalle-2.
We conducted several interviews with different specialists (experts who actively use neural networks) from different countries and found that they were all very responsive and ready to help us in finding solutions to our problems.
During the dialogues, experts shared tips and specific tools that helped us achieve our testing goals. We received a huge amount of useful information that helped us better understand the features of generative AI.
Of course, due to ethical considerations, we cannot disclose the details of our interviews and publish screenshots of our correspondence, but we can share some general insights.
For example, one of the experts suggested to us that it is necessary to check and always look at the conditions for using neural networks because there is a risk that you can be banned. And as you understand, we didn’t want a ban!
Another expert suggested that you can try to automate the process of obtaining images using AI, and we will share this with you further! So don’t worry, let’s move on!
On the Reddit platform, we managed to find many answers to our questions. We spent a few hours picking the right communities from the list (r/midjourney, r/dalle-2, r/StableDiffusion) and were pleasantly surprised by the number of responses we received on the topics we were interested in. Some of these responses have led to interesting and informative interviews, which we have already mentioned above. As a result, we gained in-depth knowledge about the topics that interest me, and I was able to apply them in my work.
Hugging face
In this community, although we didn’t get a lot of feedback, we noticed that there is indeed a very active audience. People there not only actively communicate, but also share useful information, which is a big plus to staying up to date with what is happening in this area. In addition, we believe that using this community can help to expand the circle of acquaintances and contacts, which may be useful in the future. As such, we would recommend using this community even though our experience with it has been limited.
Various Discord communities dedicated to neural networks
Here, in the forums and online communities, I not only found answers to many of our questions but also expanded our horizons. One of the main topics that interested us was bulk generation and neural network automation. Through discussions with experienced professionals on Discord, we received a lot of useful information and valuable tips that helped us better understand this area. In addition, we also learned a lot about AI and graphic design through networking with other community members. In general, our experience of interacting with online communities was very useful and allowed us to gain a lot of new knowledge and experience.
Since the Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and Dalle-2 generative models we have chosen cannot do bulk generation directly from within the service, we began to look for alternative solutions. After browsing the online communities for various neural networks and interviewing experts, we found some interesting methods that can be useful for bulk image generation.
Midjourney
One of the most ingenious solutions is to automate generation with Make or Integrately. As for Midjourney, which doesn’t have a direct function to generate bulk images, Make / Integrately allows you to automatically save images after the image has been generated. However, these services cannot automatically send /imagine requests on their own, since programs cannot call bot commands. In this case, Effortless Midjourney comes to the rescue, which can be used as an extension for Google Chrome. In a nutshell, Effortless Midjourney simplifies the image generation process. It allows you to generate images with the click of a button and then automatically save the results. The extension will take care of all interactions with Midjourney in Discord on your behalf.
It turns out that this is one of the methods that we had to test. However, we decided to stick with Midjourney only (spoiler — we’ll explain our decision in the next paragraph). It is also very important to mention terms of service so as not to violate the rules for using the services.
Stable Diffusion
Here the situation is easier because, with the help of Stable Diffusion, you can generate bulk images. To do this, you must use the version of Automatic 111 (I attach the link — https://github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui). All you have to do is right-click on the word “Create” and select “Create Permanently”. Next, you need to right-click the generate button on the Automatic1111 network and set it to generate forever. As in the first case, it will be very important to mention the terms of service in order not to violate the rules for using the services.
Dalle-2
The Dalle-2 model does not have a direct function that allows you to generate images in bulk at once. However, there is documentation (API) that allows you to do this (but again, this was suggested by users on Reddit — you should double-check!). You can integrate the Dalle-2 API into your products and enjoy bulk image generation. However, before using this feature, you need to verify the terms of service. This will help to avoid violating the rules for using the services and prevent possible negative consequences.
Initially, we needed to check in more detail whether the generative models match the requirements that our design department requires. To achieve this goal, we decided to use references from NFT Collection by Richard Tea (in addition, this is another project of ours, which you can read more about at (https://www.behance.net/gallery /160177433/RICHARD-TEA-NFT-LAUNCH-ON-SHOPIFY). This allowed us to more accurately determine which parameters are important for our project and how they can be implemented in generative models. We have also paid attention to the technical aspects of using these models to ensure they are easy to incorporate into our workflow. Finally, we presented our results to our design department so that we can discuss them and act by our requirements and goals.
Goal — to make pictures in the style of the Richard NFT collection.
References (or what has been done before)
We would like to note that this is the property of the Richard Tea brand, we attach a link to the brand’s website, and Magic Eden:

The Royal Cats&Dogs collection — https://magiceden.io/marketplace/royalnfteaclub
Prompt — royal spaniel dog, happy, wearing a royal dress, in a palace, with a crown and a cup of tea
Concluding Midjourney, we can see that this neural network is a high-quality and beautiful solution for creating images. In addition, it surprises us with its ability to create the most realistic images that accurately reflect our ideas about them. However, despite all its advantages, the neural network cannot yet generate full-fledged text on the created images. Despite this, we can expect even more advances in the future and the introduction of this feature from the developers.
You can see even more generated images below in the section: Visual Showcase: Images Generated by the Automated Workflow
positive prompt: royal spaniel dog, wearing a fancy dress, with a crown, painting, and noble and aristocratic vibe, in a palace
negative prompt: no people
In concluding table Diffusion, we can say that this neural network is a high-quality image. However, it seems to our design team that this neural network still does not meet our needs in the way we would like. We wanted more graphic and artistic images, while the neural network creates more realistic images, which does not always meet our requirements. We expressed our wishes in requests, but the neural network did not always fully understand them.
You can see even more generated images below in the section: Visual Showcase: Images Generated by the Automated Workflow
Prompt — royal British humanoid cat, wearing a suit with a crown, digital art, renaissance, 4k
Of course, there is still room for improvement, as the images generated by Dalle-2 and Stable Diffusion can sometimes be a bit blurry and not quite meet our expectations. However, we are confident that with further refinement and development, these algorithms will continue to improve and become even more sophisticated.
You can see even more generated images below in the section: Visual Showcase: Images Generated by the Automated Workflow
Therefore, we decided to choose the Midjourney. neural network. It fully meets our criteria, which we consider important. First of all, the quality of the images it generates is at a high level. In addition, she is very easy to use and perfectly understands our requests. Comparing it with other neural networks such as Stable Diffusion and Dalle-2, we can confidently say that Midjourney wins in most parameters. However, like any other neural network, Midjourney has some peculiarities. In particular, its terms of use (Terms of service) may cause some difficulties. Despite this, we believe that choosing Midjourney will help us move forward with testing and get closer to answering the main question of our study: how can we generate images in bulk using a generative model? We are very grateful for the opportunity to do this interesting research and we hope that our results will be useful and interesting for many people in our industry.
Nowadays, when businesses strive for maximum optimization and automation of processes, workflow optimization is an integral part of the successful functioning of any company. It allows you to improve the quality of work, increase productivity, reduce the time and cost of completing tasks, and reduce the number of errors. Optimization of work processes can be done in various ways, depending on the specific needs of the company. This can be the automation of routine tasks, the use of special tools and software, the simplification of business processes, etc. Thus, the optimization of work processes is an essential part of a successful business and requires constant attention and effort on the part of the company. We will talk further about how to achieve optimization of workflows for using neural networks, using the example of the generative model we have chosen — Midjourney.
Now, since we have chosen Midjourney — we want to see how this neural network will generate images in bulk, and what will happen if we optimize this process.
Attention! Once again, we want to draw your attention to the fact that at the moment Midjourney does not allow automating its processes, much less mass-generating images, so everything you see below is done solely for educational purposes and in ways to find answers to how we can massively generate images!
While researching, I found one interesting solution, which we will share with you now. With the Google extension Effortless Midjourney, which can generate about 500 images in your channel with the Midjourney bot at a time, where you will only be required to enter the prompt that you need or even the extension itself can generate prompts with **ChatGPT — All you have to do is wait until all the images you specify have been generated. Then, in order not to get confused about not transferring images to certain folders or files on your computer, using the Integrately application that automates your workflows, you can transfer the received pictures directly from your chat with the Midjourney bot to Google Drive. folder
Effortless Midjourney

Midjourney + Google Extension “Effortless Midjourney” + Automation App “Integrately”
Here we’ll tell you how the experiment itself happened — and how we tried to integrate it into our design process!
Open Discord Web Version on your computer. Be sure to open it in the desktop version in Google Chrome (the Google extension won’t work otherwise).
Install this extension from Google Chrome: Effortless-midjourney
Setup completed!
All! Now you can easily and conveniently generate about 500 images in an hour and upload them to Google Drive.
Indeed, using this method, we can conclude that you do not need to constantly waste time entering new prompts. Instead, you can set the theme once and generate different prompts by clicking the “Generate” button. Thus, you can get many unique images, each of which will be different from the others. Choose the ones you like.
This allows you to save time on routine tasks and focus on thinking through the concept of the image, understanding what you want to do in the design process and many other things that designers will have more time and effort on. In addition, the use of this method can lead to improved efficiency and lower costs. If designers can quickly get multiple versions of images, then they can make decisions faster and move on to the next task. This can help reduce time spent on projects and allow the company to focus on more important tasks.
In addition, this approach can help designers be more creative in their work. If they do not waste time on routine tasks, they will be able to devote more time to more creative ideas. This can lead to more innovative and unique designs.
In general, the use of this method can lead to an improvement in the design process and increase the efficiency of designers. But again, this method was carried out solely for educational purposes — and you just have to wait until Midjourney itself has such a function or the developers allow automating this neural network in their Terms of Service and API.
In the next part, you will see the results of our testing, as well as learn about Generative Model Policies! So it is not the end of our journey!
